Process for the preparation of optically active aryloxyalkanoic acid compounds |
abstract |
ABSTRACT The invention relates to the preparation of optically active aryloxyalkanoic acid derivatives of the formula wherein Ar represents an optionally substituted phenyl or naphthyl radical, R represents an alkyl radical containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and A represents a -COOR1 radical, by reacting an aqueous or aqueous-organic solution of an optically active alkali metal salt of a 2-halogenoalkanoic acid with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt of a phenol of the formula Ar-OH at an elevated temperature under a pressure lower than the vapour pressure of water at the reaction temperature: the aryloxyalkanoic acid derivatives having the D configuration are useful as herbicides. |
