titleOfInvention | Phosphate-free high bulk density particulate laundry detergent |
abstract | PHOSPHATE-FREE HIGH BULK DENSITY PARTICULATE LAUNDRY DETERGENT ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A free flowing phosphate-free particulate laundry detergent of high bulk density comprises spray dried particles of alkali metal carbonate and alkali metal bicarbonate containing a normally liquid or pasty nonionic detergent. The detergent is of high bulk density, even when the particles thereof are relatively large, and in a certain range of carbonate:bicarbonate weight ratios it is of superior cleaning power. Also within the invention is a method of making such products by spray drying a bicarbonate-carbonate mixture so that some of the bicarbonate decomposes to carbonate and applying thereto, as by spraying onto moving surfaces of the spray dried particles, a normally liquid or pasty nonionic detergent in liquid state, so that the detergent penetrates into and is absorbed at the interiors of the particles. Because of the exceptionally sorptive properties of the spray dried carbonate-bicarbonate particles relatively large quantities of liquid nonionic detergent can be held by them and they still remain free flowing. |
