The compounds of general formula: (I) in which X represents a bromine or chlorine atom, are obtained by reaction of metaphenoxy toluene at a temperature between 30.degree.C and 150.degree.C, with approximately two equivalents of a halogenating agent chosen from the group consisting of N-chloro and N-bromo acetamides, N-chloro and N-bromo succinimides, chlorine and bromine, in an inert solvent with halogenating agents, isolation, then purification, if desired, of the resulting dihalogenated compound. The compounds of formula (I) find their application in the preparation of metaphenoxy benzaldehyl. |
