titleOfInvention | Polyamides |
abstract | ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Polyamides having at least three different recurring polyamide repeating units are provided herein. Such polyamides consist essentially of recurring units obtained by reacting in an inert atmosphere at a tem-perature of 180 - 300°C. while removing water of reaction, thereby to effect condensation: (a) 10-50% by weight caprolactam; (b) 10-50% by weight of a polyamide derived from hexamethylene diamine and an alpha-omega dicarboxylic acid of the formula HOOC-R-COOH where R is a C4-C7 bivalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radical; and (c) 10-50% by weight of a polyamide derived from non-methylene diamine and an alpha-omega dicarboxylic acid of the formula HOOC-R1-COOH where R1 is a C7-C10 bivalent aliphatic hydro-carbon radical. In addition, the polyamide may contain up to 50% by weight of a polymeric fatty acid and an alpha-omega aliphatic diamine of the for-mula H2N-R2-NH2, where R2 is a C5-C7 alkylene radical, a polyamide, or a salt derived from the polymeric fatty acid and diamine. These polyamides are useful hot-melt adhesives for textiles and exhibit low softening point, high viscosity, high adhesive strength and good detergent and dry cleaning resistance. |
