titleOfInvention Preparation of aliphatically unsaturated organosilanes and their use as reinforcing additives for organic polymers
abstract ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel organosilanes of a particularly recited struc-tural formula, i.e. (H2C=CHCH20)2 , in which R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and monovalent hydrocarbon radicals which are free of aliphatic multiple bonds, R2 is a bivalent hydrocarbon radical free of aliphatic multiple bonds, R3 is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms and is free of aliphatic multiple bonds, R4 is selected from the group consisting of monovalent hydrocarbon radicals having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms and mono-valent hydrocarbon radicals interrupted by at least one either oxygen atom and n is 0, 1 or 2, and processes for preparing and using the same are provided herein. The process comprises re-acting a silane having an Si-bonded hydrogen atom and at least one hydrolyzable group and/or at least one group capable of being hydrolyzed more readily than the Si-bonded hydrogen atom with a particularly recited organic compound having more than one double bond, namely of the formula , in which R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and monovalent hydrocarbon radicals which are free of aliphatic multiple bonds, R2 is a bivalent hydrocarbon radical free of aliphatic multiple bonds, R3 is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms and is free of aliphatic multiple bonds, R4 is selected from the group consisting of monovalent hydrocarbon radicals having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms and monovalent hydro-carbon radicals interrupted by at least one either oxygen atom and n is 0, 1 and 2, in the presence of a catalyst which pro-motes the addition of Si-bonded hydrogen atoms to aliphatic double bonds. These organosilanes are used as reinforcing agents for providing cross-linked compositions containing or-ganic polymers which are cross-linked by means of sulfur, sul-fur compounds or peroxides. The resultant cross-linked products exhibit greatly improved elogation at break, increased tensile strength and increased resistance to tear than could possibly have been obtained with the reinforcing agents known hereto-fore. Thus, the products are useful as cable covers, trans-mission belts, conveyor belts, roller coverings, vehicle tire surfaces, shoe soles and gaskets.
