titleOfInvention | Catalyst system for reaction between carboxylic acids and epoxides |
abstract | Abstract of the Disclosure This invention is directed to a synergistic catalytic composition for catalyzing the esterltication reaction between an organic carboxylic acid and a vicinal epoxide comprising a compound containing an amino and/or ammonium nitrogen in combination with a chromium halide, chromium acetylacetonate, or chromium oxide. This invention is also directed to a process for preparing a beta-hydroxy ester comprising reacting an organic carboxylic acid with a vicinal epoxide at a temperature between 60°C and 130°C wherein one employs a catalytic amount of the composition of the present invention. |
