abstract ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel 4-desoxy-thiazolo[5,4-c]rifamycin derivatives of formula I (I) wherein R stands for a group -OR1, -NR2R3 or -NHCOR4, wherein R1 represents alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl, R2 and R3 are inde-pendently selected from hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, aryl and aralkyl or R2 and R3 taken together with the adjacent nitrogen atom represent a 5- to 7- membered heterocyclic ring, and R4 represents alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl; and R5 is hydrogen or acetyl are disclosed, together with a process for preparing them. The novel com-pounds have an antibacterial utility.
