titleOfInvention | Filtration and separation of emulsified liquids (t- 7613-c) |
abstract | FILTRATION AND SEPARATION OF EMULSIFIED LIQUIDS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tank, or vessel, has a bed of granules of solid media mounted in the lower part of the tank. The bed of media is formed of three layers, or strata, the upper and lower layers being composed of granules relatively large in size and the middle layer composed of relatively small granules. The liquids are passed downward through the three layers of the bed for their filtration and separation. Entrained solids are removed from the liquids and the separated liquids are collected in layers below the bed and withdrawn from the layers. The complete bed is periodically backwashed as it is expanded into the freeboard volume above the bed. After the expansion and backwash, the bed settles to its original position in the tank, its layers of media reclassifying in their original vertical sequence. |
