abstract cket M-329-C -1 BRAKE MECHANISM FOR HAND LABELER Abstract of the Disclosure There is disclosed an apparatus for printing and applying pressure sensitive labels utilizing a supply roll having a composite web with pressure sensitive labels releasably secured to a web of supporting material. The apparatus has a print head and a cooperable platen for printing on successive labels, a delaminator for delaminating successive printed labels from the supporting material web, an applicator for applying successive printed labels, a feed wheel engageable with the supporting material web downstream of the delaminator for feeding the composite web to present partially delaminated labels to the applicator, mechanism for operating the print head and the feed wheel in sequence, and a brake effective upon completion of the sequence for applying braking force to the composite web upstream of the delaminator to prevent the web from advancing toward the delaminator during application to a printed label by the applicator, wherein the brake includes cooperable parts controlled by the print head for movement into and out of braking cooperation with the composite web. One of the parts is a roll on which a spring finger carried by the print head acts to urge the roll into braking coaction with the other part to apply a braking force to the web.
