titleOfInvention Apparatus for recording and reproducing video signals on a magnetic tape movable at different speeds
abstract ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION In apparatus for recording and reproducing video signals in successive parallel tracks on a magnetic tape by means of magnetic beads or transducers repeatedly traversing the tape at a steady rate while the tape is driven longitudinally, and in which at least a portion of the video signals, for example, the luminance component of color video signals, frequency modulates a carrier to provide frequency modulated signals applied to the beads for recording in the tracks; the speed at which the type is driven is reduced from a normal value to a relatively slow speed for eliminating guard bands between the tracks and reducing the widths of the latter so as to achieve a high recording density on the tape, and the frequency deviation of the frequency modulated signals applied to the heads is relatively reduced when the tape is driven at such slow speed during recording for minimizing the interfering signal due to cross-talk that occurs upon reproducing of the signals recorded in the tracks of reduced width without guard bands therebetween.
