| abstract |
Abstract of the Disclosure A molten metal sample cup is provided with temperature sensing means to detect phase change in the metal within the cup as a metal sample solidifies. A blob of material which promotes the formation of carbides is attached to the insides of the cup to contact the molten metal therein. The blob material comprises a carbide stabilizer selected from the group consisting of bismuth, boron, cerium, lead, magnesium and tellurium, a refractory material and a hydrogen evolving material. |
