abstract Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention provides a process for producing a soft moist food product which has a marbled appearance resembling meat. Processes for producing marbled products are known, but it has now been found that an improved product can be obtained if the lean meat simulating formulation and the fat simulating formulation are blended while at different temperatures, Thus in a preferred embodiment red and white dyed formulations were prepared and pasteurised in a known manner, cooled respectively to 45° and 35°C., and blended in a ratio of 9:1 to give a marbled soft moist product with good texture and appearance. The foods prepared by the inventive process are particularly salted for feeding to pet animals.
