titleOfInvention | Beta-methylthiopropionic aldehyde and process for the preparation thereof |
abstract | PRECISION OF DISCLOSURE: The present invention relates to a manufacturing process beta-methylthiopropionic aldehyde from the manufacture of beta-methylthiopropionic aldehyde from methylmercaptan and a gas mixture containing acrolein obtained by catalytic oxidation of propylene. This process has two stages: the first consists of an absorption of the gas mixture containing acrolein by beta-aldehyde methylthiopropionic; the second is the reaction to a temperature between 10 and 50 ° C between dissolved acrolein in beta-methylthiopropionic aldehyde and methylmercaptan; the hemithioacetal of beta-methylthiopropionic aldehyde is forming during the reaction. This process is characterized by that, prior to absorption, we rid said gaseous mixture of acrylic acid and the water it contains and in that we maintain the rate of hemithioacetal formed in the reaction medium at a value of less than 1% by weight. This new process has the advantage of not requiring an extraction step. |
