titleOfInvention Low voltage actuated field effect liquid crystals compositions and method of synthesis
abstract Abstract of the Disclosure Nematic liquid crystals composition suitable for use in displays and in other liquid crystal applications comprising a mixture of negative dielectric anisotropy low temperature characteristic nematic liquid crystal and strongly positive dielectric anisotropy nematic liquid crystal doped with traces of cholesteric liquid crystal are disclosed. These compositions have a low actuation voltages and very rapid response times. Also disclosed are novel cholesteric liquid crystal compounds of the formula: wherein the asterisk indicates the center of the asymmetry, R is a lower alkyl of from 2 to 4 carbon atoms and R' is a lower alkyl of from 1 to 7 carbon atoms, as well as their preparation.
