abstract | ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A flame retardant polycarbonate composition comprising in admixture an aromatic carbonate polymer and as flame retardant additive an alkali or alkaline earth metal salts of either monomeric or polymeric substituted aromatic sulfonic acids, wherein the substituent is an electron withdrawing group such as halogen. Thermoplastic articles in conformity with the standards of UL-94 grade SE-0 can be prepared. Where the additive has a refractive index in the range 1.54-1.65 the articles may be translucent or transparent. |
