titleOfInvention Polymers of cis-5-norbornene-2,3-dicarboxylic anhydride
abstract ;. . ABSTRACT Novel polymers of the cyclic adducts of maleic anhydride and cyclic conjugated dienes such as cyclopentadiene. The polymers are prepared by heating the cyclic adduct, or a mixture of the diene and maleic anhydride, in the presence of a free radical precursor, such as a peroxygen compound, at a temperature above 100°C. The novel polymers of this invention may be used as thickeners, stabilizers, dispersants, binders, emulsifiers, textile and paper sizing agents, leveling agents in floor polishes. The polyanhydrides or half acids may be used to cure expoxy, alkyd, amine - formaldehyde, thermo-setting acrylic and other resins containing reactive functional groups.
