titleOfInvention Esterification process for trichlorosilane
abstract ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The present invention relates to a process for the di-rect, optionally partial, esterification of trichlorosilane by reaction with primary alcohols to form compounds corresponding to the general formula H - Si(OR)3-nCln, in which R represents alkyl radicals with 1 to 11 carbon atoms which may optionally contain hereto atoms, selected among O and S, in the chain, and n is 0 or 1, wherein in a one-pot process carried out at temperatures below 100°C, at most two valencies of the trichlorosilane are initially reacted with the corresponding stoichiometric quantity of a primary alcoholic compound by in-troducing the alkanol into the trichlorosilane without any contact with the gas phase, removing the hydrogen chloride formed from the reaction zone on completion of the reaction, subsequently conti-nuing esterification to the required level by adding more primary alcoholic compound and then removing the redissolved, residual hydrogen chloride from the reaction zone again. The compounds obtained thereby are of commercial significance for the synthesis of organofunctional silane compounds and also in semi-conductor chemistry.
