ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Amidoxime derivatives having the general formula: (I) and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts, whe-rein R1 and R2 are the same or different and each represent hydrogen or a straight-chain lower alkyl radical containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, n is 0, 1 or 2 and R is selected from the groups consisting of: A = B = C = D = wherein X represents oxygen or sulphur, Y...Z represents HC-CH or C=C, and R3 and R4 are the same or different and each repre-sent hydrogen or a branched- or straight-chain lower alkyl ra-dical containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, with the provisos that: a) when n is 1, R1 and R2 are each hydrogen and R is selected from the groups A, B, C and D. b) when n is 2, R1 and R2 are each hydrogen and R is selected from the groups A, B, C and the group D when it represents .beta.-naphthyl, are obtained by reacting a nitrile of the general formula: (II) wherein R, R1, R2 and n have the aforesaid meanings, in an alcoholic medium and in the presence of an alkali metal alcoholate, with hydroxylamine hydrochloride to obtain the desired compound of formula I in free base form which may be further treated with an organic or inorganic acid to form the corresponding pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof. The compounds of the general for-mula I have been found to present psychotropic properties and more particularly thymoanaleptic properties producing very marked antidepressive and antiaggressive effects. |
