abstract "synthetic foot-and-mouth disease peptide vaccines". The present invention relates to the use of a peptide composition as an immunogen, as each peptide contained therein comprises a target antigenic site derived from the foot-and-mouth disease virus vp1 capsid protein (fmdv). the antigenic site is covalently linked to the helper t cell epitope, preferably to other immunostimulatory sequences, preferably by conventional peptide (s) ligation through direct synthesis, for the prevention of fmdv infection and virus eradication. FMD (FMDV). more particularly, the present invention relates to the use of such a peptide composition as an immunogen to elicit the production of animals including, swine, cattle, sheep, goats and susceptible wild-type species of high titer polyclonal antibodies that may effectively neutralize, in vitro, multiple fmdv strains or serotypes, and the use of such a composition as a vaccine to prevent, and / or reduce the incidence of fmdv infection despite the serotype, and thereby effect fmd eradication. The present invention also relates to peptides in the compositions, and to immunoassays and / or diagnostic kits containing one or more of these peptides, and to methods of diagnosing fmdv in mammals using such materials.
