abstract | DEVICE FOR TRANSMUCOSAL RELEASE OF PHARMACEUTICAL AND METHOD INCLUDING INCREASE IN ELECTRICALLY ACTIVATED PERMEATION. The present invention relates to intraluminal devices and methods which are provided for transmucosal drug delivery. The device may comprise a housing configured for intraluminal implantation in a human or animal subject; a drug release portion containing at least one drug; and an electrically actuated portion configured to rupture at least one region of a mucosal barrier adjacent to the housing at a selected time while implanted intraluminally into the human or animal subject. The device may be operated to release the drug from the housing to a region of the mucosal barrier ruptured by the electrically actuated portion. |
