abstract absorbent sheet of cellulosic fibers with variable local weight a cellulosic absorbent sheet is formed by crimping on the belt of a nascent continuous sheet in a consistency of 30% to 60% using a perforated polymeric crimping belt usually planar to form a sheet with hollow domed regions of heavier weight enriched in fibers on one side of the sheet, joined by a network of connecting regions of smaller local weight forming a network where consolidated fibrous regions folded up and inward showing slope of the fiber orientation in the dt form transition areas between connecting regions and domed regions. when converted to roll products, cellulosic sheets exhibit a surprising combination of specific gravity, roll firmness, absorbency and softness. the consolidated fibrous regions are preferably saddle-shaped and exhibit a tangled structure on both their outer and inner surfaces.
