abstract | COMBINED USE OF MOLECULAR TECHNIQUES AND BIOMARKERS FOR PROSTATE CANCER MONITORING AND DIAGNOSIS The present invention provides methods for monitoring and therapeutic efficacy for patients with prostate cancer, by the combined use of molecular biology techniques, specifically the RT-PCR Semi-technology. Quantitative; Relative Quantitative; Absolute Quantitative and Duplicate (Nested) components and reaction conditions to estimate or detect levels of RNA specimens of the SRD5A2, PCA3, LSP1 and RNASEL genes differentially expressed in prostate tissues of patients with adenocarcinomas, comparing them to benign prostatic diseases (hyperplasias , prostatic infections, among others) and/or healthy young individuals. This invention also relates to the combined use of the expression of these molecular biomarkers in peripheral blood, to monitor the presence or absence of circulating prostate cells and/or micrometastatic cells in the peripheral blood of patients with prostate cancer. This invention has direct application in distinguishing between patients with prostate cancer and benign hyperplasia, as well as in choosing the most appropriate therapy, according to the stage of the disease, and in monitoring the therapeutic efficacy and relapse of the disease after treatment. |
