The present invention provides a saccharin sorghum plant characterized by the lignin content and / or altered lignin composition as compared to a wild plant and this is achieved by manipulating the expression of caffeoyl-CoA-O-methyltransferase (CCoAOMT) in sorghum saccharin by incorporating a gene silencing construct comprising an isolated DNA sequence represented by SEQ ID NO 1.
