abstract Antiviral pharmaceutical composition for controlled release and its preparation process The present invention relates to a buccal mucoadhesive pharmaceutical composition for controlled release and the process for preparing such a composition. The composition comprises plant extract as an active ingredient, preferably standardized extract of Achyrocline satureioides, which has antiviral action (HSV-1 and HSV-2). The controlled release composition comprises at least one active ingredient and a system of polymers, which delay the release of the active ingredient in the oral cavity, as well as providing mucoadhesive properties, in addition to optionally including other pharmaceutically acceptable excipients. The composition provides therapeutically effective levels of the active ingredient during the period of time in which the composition maintains its mucoadhesive properties.
