METHODS AND KITS TO PREVENT RISK FOR PRE-TERM WORK. The invention is directed to kits and processes that allow the risk of premature labor in a pregnant woman to be predicted. The inventors have found that various components of the extracellular matrix can be detected in cervical secretions. Quantitative assessment of certain extracellular matrix proteins found in cervical secretions can be used as a diagnosis for the biomechanical state of the cervix, which indicates whether premature labor is likely. Some components of the extracellular matrix that can be found in cervical secretions include decorin, thrombospondin and matrix metalloproteinases. |
