The strain gauge is positioned on the pressure direction side with respect to a radius end of a die shoulder on the material flow outlet side when the mold is positioned on a press forming lower dead center. the strain measuring device is preferably positioned within a region defined by a surface that is distant from the center of curvature of a curved mold surface by the distance which is ten times r, where r is a radius of curvature of the curved surface.
