titleOfInvention AUTOMATIC PUMP CLEANING SYSTEM
abstract "automatic pump relay system". The present invention relates to an automatic pump relay system (20, 42, 94) including controllers (35, 52,54) coupled to actuators (22,23,48,50) for sequentially discharging fluid from a a plurality of medication containers (24, 26) in a coupler (35) having a reflux barrier (32, 121, 122) from which fluid is administered to a patient. Coupler fluid internal pressure (35) is determined by a pressure sensing device (38), or devices that provide signals to the controllers (35, 52,54) which, based on the minimum of sensor signals, cause the actuators (22,23,48,50) operate in reverse and direct directions so as to rapidly decrease and increase fluid pressure within the coupler (35) during a relay from an empty syringe to a full syringe, avoiding with this bolus formation and an interruption in infusion therapy. Independently operable syringe pumps (44, 46) are considered to be relayly connected to form a modular system.
