titleOfInvention "PORTABLE LIGHTING APPLIANCE ON SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS"
abstract "Portable fixture affixable to surgical instruments" The present invention consists of a fixture capable of being fixed to surgical instruments, and providing better illumination of the operating field during surgical procedures. The lighting apparatus comprises a light source (1), such as a led, connected to a power supply source (2). The light source (1) and part or all of the power supply are housed in an intentionally constructed frame (3). said frame (3) has at least one securing means (5) on its outer surface which is suitable for removably attaching the luminaire to one surgical instrument, being removed and reattached to another. In a preferred embodiment of the invention at least one said fastening means (5) is a magnet. These clamping means allow for easy fixation and removal of the luminaire on various different surgical instruments during a given surgical procedure. They also allow the position of the luminaire to be easily shifted along the surgical instrument. Due to its weight, configuration and size, the luminaire of the present invention does not interfere with the normal use of surgical instruments. Said present invention is intended exclusively for open surgery and in particular those where good illumination of normally ill-lit organ cavities is required.
