The present invention relates to the use of polyprenylated benzophenones isolated from Garcinia gardneriana, a plant popularly known as Bacupari, Bacuri or Bacuripari, as inhibitors of serine and cysteine proteases such as cathepsins B and G, lysosomal proteolytic enzymes involved in tumor spread and dissemination.
