abstract "control 111 environmental summary poultry processing". and microbiological is not the placement of poultry carcasses in contact with water treated with one or more dihalodialkyl hydantoin biocides specified in a downstream processing operation of a scalding tank. the aqueous effluent from this downstream operation or from any additional downstream places is recycled to the scalding tank. surprisingly, the bromine residues of dihalodialkyl hydantoin biocides are much more thermally unstable than, for example, microbicide 1 is the commonly used sodium hypochlorite. thus, the scalding tank effluent has its active bromine content significantly reduced before it is sent to the water purification facility where microbial action is used to reduce wastewater flow prior to its release into the water. environment. thus, the damage of this desired microbial action is reduced. In addition, recycling reduces water consumption in the poultry processing operation as a whole.
