The present invention relates to processes for producing intermediate materials used in perfumes, specifically epimerized cyclohexenyl ketones. The invention also relates to processes for employing the epimerizing reaction in an aldol condensation reaction. The process for epimerizing a cyclohexenyl ketone comprises the step of reacting an epimerizable cycloxenyl ketone with a metal hydride, preferably a group 1 or group 2 metal hydride, most preferably wherein the metal hydride is selected from the group consisting of: lih Nah, Cah2 and mixtures thereof, Group 2, most preferably wherein the metal hydride is selected from the group consisting of Lih. nah, cah2 and mixtures thereof.
