titleOfInvention Imaging System, and Method for Generating a Photo-Acid and Ultrasound Combined Image from a Sample
abstract IMAGE GENERATION SYSTEM, AND METHOD FOR GENERATING A PHOTO-ACESTIC AND ULTRASOUND COMBINED IMAGE FROM A SAMPLE. The present description is directed to a photo-acoustic (PA) and ultrasound combined imaging system capable of simultaneously generating PA and ultrasound images. These images can be combined and viewed in real time. PA images are acquired by firing a lighting system on a sample from which the image is being taken and forming a beam of the received photo-acoustic signals. Ultrasound images are formed by transmitting ultrasound energy on the object and forming a beam of the reflected signals. The present description describes a timing controller for allowing lighting and ultrasound system transmissions to be timed relative to one another. This allows both modalities to operate close to their maximum frame rates while avoiding signal interference.
