abstract METHOD FOR REDUCING ENERGY CONSUMPTION WITH ELECTRO-OPTICAL LENSES. an electro-optical device is provided which has reduced energy consumption. More specifically, an electro-optical device is provided which comprises: a layer of liquid crystal between a pair of opposing transparent substrates; a standard electrode set positioned between the liquid crystal layer and the surface facing the first transparent substrate; a conductive layer between the liquid crystal layer and the inward facing surface according to a transparent substrate; and a means for applying voltage to the standardized electrode assembly and the. conductive bed, where the voltage applied to the conductive layer is below the threshold voltage (the difference in RMS voltage above which the optical transmission of the liquid crystal layer changes).
