titleOfInvention | method for making alpha hydroxy carboxylic acids |
abstract | METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING ALPHA-HYDROXICARBOXYLIC ACIDS. The present invention relates to a continuous method for the manufacture of alpha-hydroxycarboxylic acid, in which, as educts, alpha-hydroxycarboxylic acid amide is reacted with an alcohol in the presence of a catalyst, obtaining a product mixture, which presents ester of alpha-hydroxycarboxylic acid as well as alcohol and catalyst, and educt currents are introduced into a fluid reactor under pressure comprising as educts an alpha-hydroxycarboxylic acid amide, an alcohol and a catalyst, the educt currents are reacted with each other in the pressure cooker under a pressure in the range of 0.1 mPa to 10 mPa (1 bar up to 100 bar), and in the product mixture the concentration of alcohol and ammonia is reduced, and the ammonia is removed by distillation, under a pressure that is constantly maintained above 0.1 mPa (1 bar), without the aid of additional extraction means. The continuous method can be applied on an industrial scale with special advantage. |
