abstract <B> METHODS FOR THE SHARPENING OF SHARPEN SURFACES AND / OR IRREGULARITIES OF A POLYMERIC STENT AND TO REDUCE REACTIVE AMINO GROUPS IN A POLYMERIC STENT <D> The present invention presents methods for the manufacture of stents, which use a chemical treatment to make the surface smoother, to polish it or to make the stent more resistant. One of these treatments involves exposing the stent to acetone or a similar solvent. In certain embodiments, there is an additional step, which consists of placing the stent in a bath containing acetone, or a similar solvent, which also contains the polymer of which the stent is composed. The acetone bath step can be carried out at a temperature lower than the glass transition temperature. The present invention also provides methods for fabricating the stent using an acetone bath containing polylactic acid. Other embodiments provide methods for making a stent using an acetone bath containing polylactic acid and polyethylene glycol.
