titleOfInvention Method for separation of polymeric pentose from a liquid / slurry
abstract <B> METHOD FOR SEPARATING POLYMERIC PENTOSE FROM A LIQUID / MUD. <D> The present invention provides a method for extracting polymeric pentose, preferably xylan, from a liquid / sludge containing polymeric pentose, preferably black liquor, whose method comprises the following steps: (a) provision of a liquid / sludge containing polymeric pentose; (b) concentration of the polymeric pentose through membrane separation of said liquid / sludge containing polymeric pentose; and (c) adding alcohol to the concentrate obtained in step (b) and subsequent acidification of said concentrate obtained in step (b) for precipitation of the polymeric pentose, whereby a polymeric pentose product or an intermediate product of polymeric pentose is obtained. According to the above method, a polymeric pentose, for example, xylan, is separated, in which the use of methanol (less lignin must be kept in the solution) and acid (less acid that acts as a buffer to reduce pH) much smaller. The present invention also provides, according to a second aspect, a polymeric pentose product or an intermediate polymeric pentose product, which can be obtained by the method according to the first aspect. The present invention also provides, according to a third aspect, the use of the polymeric pentose product or intermediate polymeric pentose product of the second aspect of the invention, preferably in the production of food additives or as a chemical raw material.
