titleOfInvention | method for extracting gum from triglyceride oils |
abstract | METHOD FOR EXTRACTION OF GUM FROM TRIGLYCERID OILS. The present invention relates to a system and method of extracting gum from a plant-derived oil which comprises mixing a feed stream under ultra-high shear conditions to provide a mixed stream, passing the mixed stream through a tank retention and separation of the mixed stream in an aqueous stream and an oily stream are described. The feed stream comprises water, optional acid (s) added and triglyceride oil, such as a plant-derived oil, having a relatively high phosphorus content and may also include metal impurities, such as lons calcium, magnesium and / or iron. The process can provide an oily triglyceride stream with a phosphorus content of no more than about 10 to 20 ppm and no more than about 0.5% by weight of free fatty acids. In many cases, the oily triglyceride stream has a phosphorus content which is no more than about 3% of the phosphorus content of the feed stream. The process also provides a wet gum stream which can have an AI of 75 or more. |
