titleOfInvention a process and apparatus for pneumatically assisted spray coating a surface with a viscous aqueous architectural coating composition and a viscous aqueous architectural coating composition
abstract PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR APPLICATION WITHOUT PNEUMATIC ASSISTANCE A SURFACE WITH A VISKY ARCHITECTURE COATING COMPOSITION, AND A VISKY ARCHITECTURE COATING COMPOSITION. A process, apparatus and coating composition for spray-assisting (e.g., airless) spray coating a surface with a viscous aqueous architectural coating composition (e.g., a paint) suitable for hiding marks on surfaces, the composition of which it has a non-Newtonian flux and contains a binder polymer and above 30% by weight of solid ingredients (especially those chosen from thickeners, opacifiers, pigments and diluents) wherein the composition is expelled through a hole in a nozzle under a pressure of 2, 5 to 5 bar that can be generated by a hand or electric pump. A suitable composition has a Brookfield viscosity of at least 0.5 Pa.se, preferably not exceeding 50 Pa.se, contains a predominantly associative thickener for spraying through an oblate or circular orifice, or, alternatively, has an apparent extensional viscosity of 0.10. 05 to 0.5 Pa.s. Preferably, the nozzle has devices for imparting a transverse force to the composition so that it enters the orifice with swirling motion.
