titleOfInvention anode optimized alkaline cell
abstract ALKALINE CELL WITH OPTIMIZED ANOD. The present invention relates to an alkaline cell (810) which has an anode mixture (815) comprising zinc particles, aqueous alkaline electrolyte and molecular sieve additive. The cathode (812) preferably comprises manganese dioxide. The cell can be cylindrical in shape, or any other shape or size. The molecular sieve additive preferably comprises a crystalline aluminosilicate material that is at least partially dehydrated before mixing with the aqueous electrolyte, preferably potassium hydroxide. The crystalline structure of the aluminosilicate has an average pore size between about 3 and 25 angstroms. The addition of molecular sieves to the zinc anode optimizes the discharge capacity and cell life. The molecular sieves preferably comprise between about 0.07% and 0.7%, by weight, of the anode mixture.
