titleOfInvention | calpastatin markers for fertility and longevity |
abstract | CALPASTATIN MARKERS FOR FERRICITY AND LONGEVITY. The present invention relates to compositions and methods based on new calpastatin genetic markers (CAST), such as nonsense mutations in exon 3 that result in G48D or P52L substitutions (NM174003. 2: c.271G> .A and 283C> T), a G / T substitution in intron 3 (A- AFC02060381 .1: g.21 1OG> T) and a GAAA repeat in intron 8 (A- AFC0206038 1.1: g 6700 [(GAAA) 4] + [(GAAA) 5]. Particular aspects provide new markers for fertility (for example, race pregnancy rate, DPR) and longevity (for example, productive life, PL) in, for example , dairy cattle.Additional aspects provide new methods comprising marker-assisted selection to improve fertility and / or longevity in dairy cattle. Therefore, in particular embodiments, a combination of genetic selection based on one or more of the new CAST markers, and high potentials of PTA of milk production traits, provides reproductive traits improved in association with traits of continued high milk production. Additional aspects have elicited an XL domain previously unrecognized in the human CAST gene, and thus provide for the use of CAST XL domain mutants / variants as markers for human fertility and longevity. |
