titleOfInvention biomass polyhydroxyalkanoate separation process from microorganisms or plants
abstract SEPARATION PROCESS OF POLYHYDROXIALCANOATS FROM MICROORGANISMS OR PLANTS. Belonging to the bioteenology sector, it consists of placing the wet or dry biomass of the genetically modified microorganism or plant, its fragments or their parts containing PHA and other constituent parts of the biomass such as DNA, RNA, proteins, lipids and other cellular components, in contact with the solvent or solvent mixture (0 to 100%), and left in intimate contact with the solvent at a certain temperature and for a time until extraction is complete. The solvents used are alcohol esters of no more than three carbons with carboxylic acids of four or more carbons, such as methyl succinate, methyl glutarate, methyl adipate, dimethyl succinate, dimethyl glutarate, dimethyl adipate, ethyl succinate, ethyl adipate, ethyl glutarate diethyl succinate, diethyl adipate, diethyl glutarate and mixtures thereof, and the one- or two-carbon alcohol monoesters containing fatty acids from vegetable oil oils, as soybean, castor, pine nut, palm, babassu and their mixtures, known as biodiesel, as the methyl and ethyl esters of soybean oil. Then the PHA is separated, where the suspension is filtered, centrifuged or decanted, the remaining biomass materials are removed from the solubilized polymer solution and the polymer is then precipitated with the aid of a solvent-miscible substance. either non-solvent or a marginal solvent for PHAs. The substances used methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, acetone, water and mixtures thereof. The precipitated polymer mass is then filtered, centrifuged or decanted for separation, washed thoroughly with water to remove the solvent and the resulting mass of the polymer is then taken to a water and any residual solvent to dry out and finally removed. made available for use or packaged for sale. The "MICROORGANISM OR PLANT BIOMASS POLYHYDROXIALCANOATE SEPARATION PROCESS" ensures high extraction yield and low molar mass reduction, since contact times for extraction are greatly reduced. In addition, the solvents and their mixtures used do not have a prominent odor and are easily removable from residual biomass with aqueous or weak hydroalcoholic treatment at room temperature, eliminating steps of using vapor for desolventization, which may result in polymer chain scission, thus reducing the quality of the final product. After drying, the material produced is odorless and white in color, facilitating further processing.
