abstract APPLIANCE FOR COLLECTING FETAL BLOOD FROM UMBILICAL AND PLACENTA STRING, METHOD OF USE OF THE SAME, SYSTEM FOR A PROCEDURE OF COLLECTION IN CLOSED CIRCUIT AND METHOD OF USE OF THE SYSTEM. FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention comprises devices and methods for collecting fetal umbilical cord blood and placenta after the baby is born. Embodiments of the invention are open circuit devices and methods that allow the collection of relatively large amounts of umbilical cord blood while reducing the risk of contamination to lower levels than currently associated with closed circuit systems. Other embodiments consist of methods and devices for use in closed system procedures that increase the amount of blood collected and that also reduce the amount of contamination in the closed systems currently employed.
