abstract METHODS FOR THE DIAGNOSIS OF PANCREATIC CANCER. The present invention provides a method of identifying the origin of a metastasis of unknown origin by obtaining a sample containing metastatic cells; measurement of biomarkers associated with at least two different carcinomas; combination of biomarker data in an algorithm, in which the algorithm normalizes biomarkers against a reference; and imposing a cut-off value that optimizes the sensitivity and specificity of each biomarker, weighs the prevalence of carcinomas and selects a source tissue, determining the origin based on the highest probability determined by the algorithm, or determining that the carcinoma is not derived from a particular set of carcinomas; and, optionally, the measurement of specific biomarkers for one or more additional different carcinomas, and repetition of the steps for additional biomarkers.
