abstract METHOD FOR DETERMINING AUXILIARY LOAD ON AN ENGINE. A method is provided where an auxiliary device is being powered by the PTO drive line (48), the PTO clutch (5) is periodically slowly reduced in pressure until slip is detected in the clutch (50). Slip is determined by monitoring the tree speed in the clutch. By determining the commanded pressure where slip occurred, the equivalent engine power that is going to the auxiliary function is calculated. With this information, the proportion of the engine load signal that is indicated for the auxiliary function versus the steering wheels is determined. After slip is detected in the clutch (5) to minimize the amount of slip.
