METHODS TO CHANGE THE REACTIVITY OF PLANT CELL WALLS. The present invention relates to methods and means for modifying plant cell wall reactivity, particularly as may be found in natural fibers of fiber producing plants by inclusion of positively charged oligosaccharides or polysaccharides in the cell wall. This can conveniently be achieved by expressing a chimeric gene encoding an N-acetylglycosamine transferase, particularly an N-acetylglycosamine transferase, capable of being labeled on Golgi apparatus membranes in cells of a plant. |
