abstract ENGINE FUEL, AND USES OF Aqueous ETHANOL AND ETHANOL AND WATER. Engine fuel compositions containing ethanol, also known as gasohol, are presented, where the engine fuel is substantially in a phase containing, 1 to 50, preferably 2 to 30% by weight of ethanol, an amount of water between 1 and 10% by weight, based on the weight of ethanol. Motor fuel compositions can be produced by mixing gasoline with aqueous ethanol, thereby avoiding the need to use anhydrous ethanol as a raw material. In addition, engine fuel compositions can be produced by mixing gasoline with hydrated ethanol and anhydrous ethanol, thereby avoiding the need to use anhydrous ethanol with the only raw material. These engine fuel compositions may contain a second liquid phase that does not form a separate layer, and where no liquid phase can be detected by vision, and therefore, meets the specification that has become known as "clear and bright" .
