abstract | The present invention relates to methods for designing nucleic acid molecules for increased expression of plant encoded polypeptides. In such methods, codon usage frequencies are induced in the direction of codon usage frequencies of a plant virus, plant virus group, or a subgroup of nucleic acid molecules derived therefrom. In preferred advances, the encoded polypeptide affects the plant phenotype. The invention also encompasses polypeptide-encoding nucleic acid molecules where the nucleic acid molecules have been designed to display biased codons of plant viruses. The invention also makes use of transgenic and progeny plants thereof, with increased expression of insecticide polypeptides for increased insect resistance and other pests that are detrimental to valuable plants in agriculture. The present invention further relates to a method for obtaining a transgenic plant and its progeny comprising stably transforming a plant cell with a nucleic acid molecule, cultivating said transformed cell under conditions of plant growth and the regeneration of the transgenic plant and its progeny. |
