use of ezetimibe in the prevention and treatment of biliary tree cholesterol lithiases |
abstract |
USE OF EZETIMIBA IN PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF CHOLESTEROL LYTIASIS IN THE BILARY TREE. This invention discloses the use of compounds of the azetidinone family in the prevention or treatment of biliary tree cholesterol disease in mammals. This invention is included in the general field of gallstone disease of the gallbladder and gallbladder. In particular, the invention provides evidence that the use of drugs that specifically block intestinal cholesterol absorption inhibits the onset of cholesterol biliary tree disease. These drugs act by decreasing bile cholesterol secretion and at the same time increasing bile flow and liver secretion of endogenous compounds (eg bile salts, phospholipids) in the bile. In turn, these endogenous compounds contribute to inhibit the precipitation of cholesterol and the formation of lithiasis in the biliary tree. |
