abstract | filling system and method for syringes with small needles. a syringe filling system using small needles to be filled from an ampoule having a thick septum is described. the system can be used in any situation where the septum or stop of the ampoule of a medicine container is thicker than the useful length of the needle in the dispensing device. preferably, the syringe is filled just before use. the small needle includes an optional limiter that allows only a certain predetermined length of the needle cannula to protrude beyond the limiter at a distance that limits the penetration of the needle tip into both the skin and the stop of an ampoule. the system and adapter can be used for needles with a protrusion distance of approximately 0.5 mm to 3 mm, or any needle with a protrusion length less than the thickness of a septum to be accessed. moreover, a device with protective capabilities is provided to protect the device's needle. |
