titleOfInvention | METHOD FOR DETERMINING A PROPERTY OF CHEMICAL PULP FIBER PULP, AND, PULP FIBER MANUFACTURING LINE |
abstract | method for determining a pulp property of chemical pulp fibers, and pulp fiber manufacturing line. a method for the determination of cellulosic fiber properties, such as chemical pulp residual lignin content, with the aid of a spectroscopic technique obtained over a band covering the visible and near infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, comprising the steps to sample the process line minimally by removing any excess water, exposing the sample fibers to a large beam light source, optionally moving the sample at a constant speed, and acquiring spectral data over a predetermined duration correlating the spectrum to a previously determined calibration to determine the cap number. alternatively, as an arrangement for process control, the present invention includes mounting the excitation light source and fiber optic probe along the various kraft cooking locations and bleaching process, such as 1) in drum washers for brown liquid and 2) through the bleaching facility platforms, located just before the scraper blade, the probe being connected to a fast scan spectrometer through the fiber optic cables with a computer that sequences the acquisition and correlation spectral spectra against a predetermined calibration, and which records the results. |
